WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has added goaltender Doug Carr to its active roster, after he was released from his tryout with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Carr, 27, will be playing in his third full season as a pro in 2015-16, after splitting his first two campaigns between the AHL and ECHL levels. Doug first broke into professional hockey at the end of his college career in 2013-14, turning in a 1-0-1 record with the AHL's Abbotsford Heat. The following year, he posted 14 victories, playing in the AHL with the Adirondack Flames and the ECHL with the Colorado Eagles. Last season, the Hanover, Massachusetts native spent the majority of the campaign with the Manchester Monarchs, going 10-8-5 with a 2.77 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. He also saw postseason action in four games, while stepping into the crease for three AHL games with the Albany Devils. Carr attended UMass-Lowell for four years, where he majored in Business Administration while playing with the River Hawks. In four seasons on the ice, Doug earned 42 wins, while helping UMass-Lowell to the 2013 Frozen Four in Pittsburgh.
Doug Carr and the Nailers will begin the 25th season of professional hockey in Wheeling presented by The Health Plan on Saturday night, when they host the Brampton Beast at 7:05. The Eastern Conference Championship Banner gets raised to the rafters, and alumni such as Doug Sauter, Brock Woods, and Sean Collins will be on hand for the celebration.
