WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, has made a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has traded defenseman Sam Windle to the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for future considerations.
Windle, 24, appeared in five of the first ten games for the Nailers this season, after signing with the club during the summer. Sam's second game of the campaign took place on October 22nd, when he dished out an assist on Garrett Meurs' goal against the Cincinnati Cyclones at US Bank Arena. During his time with Wheeling, he accumulated four shots on goal and a -1 rating. This is Windle's second season of professional hockey, after he split his rookie year between the Reading Royals and Norfolk Admirals. Sam has suited up in 42 career games, tallying six assists and 16 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, the Maple Grove, Minnesota native attended Bemidji State University for four years, where he compiled 14 points in 135 games.
The Wheeling Nailers will be back on the ice on Tuesday morning at 11:05, when they play host to the Brampton Beast on Education Day at WesBanco Arena.
