Last week, the Wheeling Nailers continued their winning ways, coming out on top in two divisional contests, as they extended their winning streak to four games in a row. On Friday night, Wheeling and the Reading Royals battled to a 1-1 tie after two periods, with Adam Krause notching the opening goal in his season debut with the Nailers. With Reading playing its eighth consecutive road game, Wheeling capitalized in the third period, pulling away with three tallies. First, Jordan Kwas tapped in a redirected shot from Brett Stern. Then, Josh Shalla slipped in a right circle wrister on the power play. Finally, Derek Army capped off the 4-1 triumph with a snipe from the right circle. Doug Carr made 25 saves between the pipes. On Sunday afternoon, the Nailers faced another vulnerable opponent, as the Brampton Beast were playing their third game in three days. Wheeling picked up an early goal from Kevin Schulze, then Army added to the advantage with a bullet from the right circle later in the stanza. Brampton battled back to tie the tilt 2-2, but the deadlock lasted for a very short time, as Krause put the visitors back on top. Krause's second of the day and third of the weekend gave the Nailers a two-goal edge, before Cody Wydo tacked on an empty netter for a 5-2 final score. JP Anderson earned his second straight win, turning away 27 of 29 shots.

The Nailers have won six of their last seven games, and are now 6-3-1 on the season. With his three goals over the weekend, Adam Krause has 20 in 45 career games with Wheeling. His first tally was assisted by Christian Hilbrich, who recorded his first professional point. Nick Sorkin recorded at least one point in six straight games, before being held off of the scoresheet on Sunday. JP Anderson played the first 79:12 of the season without allowing a goal. Kevin Schulze posted his second three-point game of the year on Sunday, as he picked up a goal and two assists. The Nailers have had at least one player score multiple goals in four of the team's last five victories. Wheeling now owns an 8-1-0 record at Powerade Centre. The Nailers outscored the opposition 6-1 in the third period over the weekend, raising their third period goal differential to +11 for the season.

This Week

Tue. 11/15 Brampton Beast @ WHEELING NAILERS, 11:05 a.m.Fri. 11/18 WHEELING NAILERS @ Indy Fuel, 8:05Sat. 11/19 WHEELING NAILERS @ Quad City Mallards, 8:00Sun. 11/20 WHEELING NAILERS @ Quad City Mallards, 5:00

This week, the Wheeling Nailers will play one of their busiest stretches of the season, as they are in the midst of playing five games in eight days. On Tuesday morning, Wheeling will lock up with the Brampton Beast for the second time in a row, following Sunday's 5-2 triumph on the road. The Nailers are in search of their third straight win in a morning game, after last year's heroic comeback against Cincinnati. Wheeling will then hit the road for three games, all against Central Division foes, starting on Friday night against the Indy Fuel at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Fuel spent last weekend in Alaska, where they won two of three games against the Aces, including a 2-0 shutout victory on Sunday. Indy currently sits in seventh place in the Central Division, with a 4-6-1 record. The two wins in Anchorage stopped a seven-game winless skid. The Fuel took two of three games against the Nailers last season, including the rubber match on home ice. Indy will not travel to Wheeling in 2016-17. On Saturday and Sunday, the Nailers will clash with the Quad City Mallards at iWireless Center. Quad City picked up a pair of key division wins last weekend, taking down the Toledo Walleye 4-2 on Friday, before dropping the Kalamazoo Wings 2-1 on Saturday. The Mallards are 7-3-1 on the season, which is good for fourth place in the Central Division. Wheeling won two of three games against Quad City in its inaugural season series, with one victory taking place at each building.
