WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has loaned forward Nick Sorkin to the AHL's San Diego Gulls, who have signed him to a professional tryout agreement.
Sorkin, 25, is competing in his third full professional season and second in North America, after spending the 2015-16 campaign with Vasteras IK in Sweden. Nick's first stint on this side of the pond was spent exclusively in the American Hockey League with the Hamilton Bulldogs, who were the top affiliate for the Montreal Canadiens. The Rockville, Maryland native appeared in nine games with the Bulldogs after completing his college career at the University of New Hampshire, then tallied 25 points in 68 regular season games during 2014-15. Prior to his recent signing with San Diego, Sorkin was in the lineup in all 19 games for the Nailers. He ranks second on the team in assists (10), third in points (16), and tied for fourth in goals (6). Two of his goals have come on the power play, and two are also game winners. When Nick suits up with the Gulls, he will be the fourth member of the 2016-17 club to appear in an AHL game this season, joining Derek Army, Adam Krause, and Ethan Prow.
The Wheeling Nailers are on the road this weekend for a pair of games against the Brampton Beast on Friday at 7:15 and Sunday at 2:00. Wheeling's next home game takes place on December 14th, when McDonald's presents $6 kids tickets for the contest against the Orlando Solar Bears. Later this month, fans will be able to get $10 tickets for Throwback Night on New Year's Eve, when the Nailers wear Thunderbirds jerseys in their game against the Elmira Jackals. Holiday packs are currently available, and may be purchased through the Nailers office only. The 12 Days of Christmas are taking place now. Keep tabs on the team's social media networks to learn about that day's special.
