WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce that defenseman Kevin Schulze has been selected to participate in the 2017 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic presented by I LOVE NY.
Schulze, 23, is having a phenomenal rookie season, as he currently leads the Nailers with 20 assists, 26 points, and a +17 rating in 29 games. Kevin has notched multiple points in a game on seven different occasions this season, with the most recent being a two-goal night in a 5-2 victory over the Elmira Jackals on New Year's Eve. He has recorded three points in a game twice, and also had a four-point performance on Education Day. The White Bear Lake, Minnesota native got a brief taste of the pro game last spring, when he appeared in three regular season games and eight postseason contests for the Eastern Conference Champion Nailers, after completing his college career at the University of Wisconsin.
Every ECHL team has either a starter, reserve, or alternate named for the ECHL All-Star Classic. Former Nailer John McCarron was selected as the representative from the Florida Everblades, while fellow former Nailer Ty Loney was chosen for the host Adirondack Thunder.
Kevin Schulze becomes the 40th player in Wheeling's team history to be named to an ECHL All-Star Classic.
The 2017 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic presented by I LOVE NY will take place on Wednesday, January 18th at Glens Falls Civic Center, and will air live exclusively on NHL Network, beginning at 8:00.
