WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has loaned forward Derek Army to the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals, who have signed him to a professional tryout agreement.
Army, 25, is currently playing in his third full season of professional hockey, and is on his way to Milwaukee for the second time this season. His first PTO with the Admirals resulted in one game on December 3rd, when Derek dished out an assist in a 4-1 win over the Cleveland Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena. The North Kingstown, Rhode Island native has been on a roll as of late, as he departs Wheeling with a four-game goal streak. On the season, Army has compiled 12 goals, five assists, and 17 points in 28 games with the Nailers. Derek has been a strong offensive player throughout his career, as he has racked up 55 goals, 65 assists, and 120 points in 170 games between the ECHL and AHL levels, including career high totals of 29-37-66 as a rookie in 2014-15.
The Wheeling Nailers will play both of their games on home ice this weekend. First, on Friday night, the Nailers will go to battle with the Toledo Walleye at 7:35. That will be a Flat Screen Friday presented by The Highlands, as well as a Frosty Friday. Then, on Sunday, Wheeling clashes with Cincinnati at 5:05 on a Family Funday, featuring McDonald's $6 kids tickets and a post game skate with the team. The next big promotional night takes place on January 14th, when the Nailers will take the ice in Jedi uniforms on Star Wars Night. Then, on January 28th, Pascal Dupuis will be at WesBanco Arena as part of Pittsburgh Penguins Night.
