Penguins Recall Webster, Nailers Sign Boyle

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced two roster moves, which both take effect immediately. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins recalled defenseman Michael Webster. The Nailers then signed defenseman Tim Boyle to an ECHL contract.

Webster, 21, earns his first opportunity at the AHL level, as he plays in his first season of professional hockey. Prior to his recall, Michael had appeared in 29 games with the Nailers, accumulating three goals, 15 assists, 18 points, and a +10 rating. His first pro goal came on November 20th at Quad City, capping off a run which saw him record at least one point in five of six games. The Toronto, Ontario native picked up a goal and an assist in Wheeling's most recent game - a 5-2 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings on Sunday afternoon. Webster signed an American Hockey League contract over the summer, following a four-year junior hockey career with the OHL's Barrie Colts. Michael racked up 95 points in 254 career games with the Colts, with his best campaign coming in 2015-16, when he had 44 points in 64 games.

Boyle, 23, is playing in his second season of professional hockey, and the Nailers will be his third team in the ECHL this year. Tim previously played in one game with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, and eight matches with the Norfolk Admirals, whom he will oppose on Friday night. The Hingham, Massachusetts native has spent the majority of his pro career in the SPHL, as he recorded six points in 42 games with the Mississippi RiverKings last season, and thus far this season, he has produced seven points in 13 contests with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. Boyle was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh by the Ottawa Senators, and is the younger brother of Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brian Boyle.

Tim Boyle and the Wheeling Nailers will play a pair of road games this weekend, starting on Friday night in Norfolk at 7:30. Wheeling will have three home games will take place next week. The homestand will begin with a WesBanco Winning Wednesday on January 25th against Toledo at 7:05. The middle contest is a Flat Screen Friday and Frosty Friday against Quad City on January 27th. Finally, the highlight promotion of the week takes place on January 28th, when fans will get to meet two-time Stanley Cup Champion Pascal Dupuis on Pittsburgh Penguins Night, which features a 7:05 face-off against Brampton.
