WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced the signing of forward Johnny Daniels.
Daniels, 23, receives his second opportunity to play in the ECHL this season, following a three-game stint with the Atlanta Gladiators in the middle of December. Johnny has had an excellent campaign in the SPHL, as he departs that league while being tied for second in scoring with 33 points in 31 games. The Andover, Massachusetts native has played for three different SPHL clubs this year, as he compiled six points in eight games with the Evansville Thunderbolts, three points in six games with the Peoria Rivermen, and 24 points in 17 games with the Huntsville Havoc. Last season, as a rookie, Daniels had 33 points in 49 contests with the Louisiana IceGators. Prior to turning pro, Johnny played four seasons of college hockey at St. Anselm College, accumulating 85 points in 91 games.
Johnny Daniels is expected to make his debut with the Nailers on Friday night, when the team continues its three-game road trip against the Idaho Steelheads at 9:10. Wheeling will play three home games next week. On February 15th, it's a WesBanco Winning Wednesday against Brampton at 7:05. On the 17th, Flat Screen Friday and Frosty Friday are the two promotions for a 7:35 game against Brampton. Finally, on Saturday the 18th, A Valley Divided - Steelers vs. Browns Night at 7:05 against Kalamazoo.
