WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has signed defenseman CJ Garcia to an ECHL contract.
Garcia, 21, joins the Nailers after completing his five-year junior hockey career in the Ontario Hockey League. CJ first broke into the OHL with the Barrie Colts in 2012-13, then saw an increased role the following season, as the Colts reached the Eastern Conference Semifinal Round. CJ won another playoff round in 2014-15, as he started the campaign with Barrie, before being dealt to the Guelph Storm. The Pickering, Ontario native had his most productive year as a 19-year old with the Storm, as he tallied 26 points in 68 games. Garcia played this season with the Saginaw Spirit, recording a career-high six goals, as well as 22 points. His career totals were 16 goals, 61 assists, and 77 points in 268 games.
CJ Garcia and the Wheeling Nailers will play on home ice twice this weekend. First is a Flat Screen Friday and Frosty Friday against the Brampton Beast at 7:35. Then, on Sunday, fans can bring their dogs to the game for Pups & Pucks Night at 5:05 against the Reading Royals. Kids tickets will be $6 for the Sunday game, which will also feature the final post game skate of the season, starring the entire team. The final home game of the regular season is Fan Appreciation Night on April 7th against the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:35.
