WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. The Nailers have loaned defenseman Danny Fick to the AHL's San Antonio Rampage.
Fick, 25, earns his first ever promotion to the AHL, after spending the bulk of his first two professional seasons in North America with the Nailers. Danny played in 53 regular season games as a rookie last year, then was one of eight players to appear in all 26 playoff contests, en route to the Kelly Cup Final. Prior to this opportunity, the Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota native suited up in all 69 regular season games for Wheeling, matching his total from last year with three goals, while exceeding his assist and point totals, recording 12 and 15 in each respective category. Fick has served as an alternate captain for select games this season. The Harvard University graduate played one season in Norway, before debuting with the Nailers in 2015. He is the 13th player on the team to earn an opportunity at the AHL level this season.
"We are very proud of Danny Fick for earning the opportunity to reach the AHL for the first time in his career," said Nailers Head Coach Jeff Christian. "Danny has worked incredibly hard on developing his game over the past two seasons here in Wheeling, and we in the organization truly appreciate when those efforts get rewarded."
The Nailers will begin their final week of the regular season on Wednesday in Brampton at 7:15. Wheeling will then return home for its last home contest of the regular year on Friday night at 7:35 against Kalamazoo. That will be Fan Appreciation Night, in addition to Flat Screen Friday and Frosty Friday.
