Nailers Re-Sign Alexandre Carrier

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce their fifth player signing of the 2017 offseason. Wheeling has signed forward Alexandre Carrier to an ECHL contract.

Carrier, 26, has played with the Nailers twice over the course of his five-year professional career, appearing in ten games during the 2013-14 campaign, before suiting up for 17 contests last season. His most recent stint was the better of the two, as he recorded one goal, four assists, five points, and 21 penalty minutes. Wheeling was Alexandre's third team in 2016-17, as he also saw action with the Utah Grizzlies and Orlando Solar Bears. Moving around is nothing new for the experienced forward, who has played in four different leagues - the AHL, ECHL, SPHL, and the now defunct CHL. All 18 of his AHL games came as a member of the Albany Devils. Last season, Carrier accumulated the highest point total of his pro career with 14, while 2015-16 was his biggest year for goals (5) and penalty minutes (108).

"We brought in Alexandre Carrier at the end of the year, and we like the physical, aggressive roll that he plays," said Nailers Head Coach Jeff Christian. "On the ice, he battles hard in the corners and in front of the net. Off the ice, he's a great locker room guy, and does great work in the community."

Prior to turning pro, the St-Elzear-de-Beauce, Quebec native played three seasons of junior hockey with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Val-d'Or Foreurs. His best season with the Foreurs took place in 2010-11, when he amassed six goals, 15 assists, 21 points, and 130 penalty minutes in 67 regular season games, before chipping in with four points in four postseason matches. Alexandre finished his time in Val-d'Or with eight goals, 20 assists, 28 points, and 231 penalty minutes in 141 games. Additionally, Carrier played ten games for Salzburg EC in Austria during the 2011-12 season.

"The team treated me well last season, and I want to finish what I started when I came back, doing whatever it takes to help us make a good run in the playoffs," said Carrier. "I have a lot of experience, entering my sixth year, and it is good having the trust of Jeff Christian, as I still feel like I can make an impact. I take pride in my toughness and physical presence, using my body the right way to open space for my teammates to create. I am willing to do whatever it takes, and I'm not going to let anyone mess with my teammates."

Alexandre Carrier and the Wheeling Nailers will begin the 2017-18 season with two road games against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on October 13th and 14th. The home opener at WesBanco Arena takes place on October 21st at 7:05, when the Nailers do battle with the Cincinnati Cyclones.
