WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce their 17th player signing of the 2017 offseason. Wheeling has signed forward Hunter Fejes to an ECHL contract.

Fejes, 23, is entering his second full season of professional hockey, after spending his first campaign in the Arizona Coyotes organization with the Rapid City Rush and AHL's Tucson Roadrunners. Hunter had great success piling up points at the ECHL level, as he finished fourth in scoring on the Rush, amassing 18 goals, 20 assists, and 38 points in 48 games. In 19 games with Tucson, he recorded one goal, four assists, and five points. One of Fejes' best stretches of the season with Rapid City took place in February, when he made his way onto the scoresheet in ten of 12 games, racking up seven goals, 12 assists, and 19 points during that time. His career high four-point game against South Carolina took place during that run, in addition to an overtime goal in Allen.

"Hunter Fejes was a highly sought after player in our league this summer, after playing in the AHL last year," said Nailers Head Coach Jeff Christian. "He's a grinder with skill, who goes hard to the net and plays a gritty game, which we like, plus, he's young, hungry, and smart."

Prior to turning pro, the Anchorage, Alaska native attended Colorado College, where he majored in Economics, while playing college hockey for the Tigers. Fejes' best season came during his senior year, when he led Colorado College in scoring with 13 goals and 22 points in 36 games. Over the course of his four years in Colorado Springs, Hunter tallied 26 goals, 30 assists, and 56 points in 138 games. The forward joined the AHL's Springfield Falcons for ten games at the conclusion of his college career, after being selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Coyotes.

"Wheeling has been a great organization, developing players and helping them achieve their goals," Fejes said. "I think of myself as a gritty power forward with size and skill, who plays a hard-nosed game. The Pittsburgh organization is top notch from top to bottom, I've seen a lot of guys make it coming out of Wheeling, and I am excited to come to camp ready to go."

Hunter Fejes and the Wheeling Nailers will begin the 2017-18 season with two road games against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on October 13th and 14th. The home opener at WesBanco Arena takes place on October 21st at 7:05, when the Nailers do battle with the Cincinnati Cyclones.
