WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has loaned goaltender Colin Stevens to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Stevens, 24, has earned at least one point for the Nailers in each of his first three starts this season. His first appearance was a busy one, as Colin made 39 saves in a 7-6 overtime triumph against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Last week, Stevens turned aside 30 shots in Wheeling's home-opening victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones, before coming up with 28 saves on 30 shots in a 2-1 overtime setback on the road against the Reading Royals.
This is the third professional season for the Niskayuna, New York native, who spent time with the Manchester Monarchs and Tulsa Oilers during his first two campaigns. Stevens has 24 ECHL wins in his career. Prior to turning pro, Colin attended Union College, where he collected 53 wins, as well as an NCAA National Championship in 2013-14. Additionally, he spent one season in the EJHL, compiling a 24-3 record with the Boston Jr. Bruins.
The Wheeling Nailers will be on the road for two games this weekend, as they visit the Brampton Beast on Friday and Sunday. The next home game at WesBanco Arena takes place on November 3rd, which is a Frosty Friday against Cincinnati at 7:05.
