WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced three transactions, which all take effect immediately. Forward Jarrett Burton and defenseman Jeff Taylor have both joined the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Burton was recalled by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, while Taylor was reassigned by Pittsburgh. Additionally, the Nailers traded forward Johnny Daniels to the Wichita Thunder in exchange for future considerations.
Burton, 26, spent the last five games with the Nailers, and was instrumental in helping the team to three victories. On December 9th, Jarrett opened and closed the scoring, as Wheeling knocked off the Central Division leading Toledo Walleye, 4-2 at Huntington Center. Then, on December 16th, he set up Kevin Schulze for the opening goal, as the Nailers picked up a 4-2 victory on the road against the Reading Royals. The Echo Bay, Ontario native has spent the majority of the season with the AHL Penguins, accumulating one goal and one assist in nine contests. Burton is one of five players all-time to have worn a Wheeling uniform in parts of five different seasons.
Taylor, 23, has appeared in 14 games with the Nailers this season, tallying two goals, four assists, and six points. Jeff made his Wheeling debut on November 10th, and collected his first professional point with an assist in the club's 4-3 home win over Toledo. One week later, the Clifton Park, New York native netted his first career goal, which turned out to be the game winner in a 6-2 thumping of the Norfolk Admirals in Virginia. The rookie's other marker came on November 22nd as part of a 4-3 shootout triumph against the Worcester Railers. This is Taylor's first full season as a pro, following four years at Union College.
Daniels, 24, notched one assist in seven games with the Nailers this season, after registering six goals, four assists and ten points in 25 games during the 2016-17 campaign. Johnny's most memorable moment in a Wheeling uniform took place on March 11th of last season, when he scored a natural hat trick in 57 seconds during a win over the Quad City Mallards. The Huntsville, Alabama native assisted on Hunter Fejes' goal at Reading on December 6th, and is set to join his third ECHL team.
The Nailers will play two home games before the holidays this weekend. First, on Friday at 7:05, it's an Ugly Sweater Party. Any fan that wears an ugly sweater to the game will receive a buy one, get one free ticket voucher for a future game. Plus, there will be a contest to determine which fan is wearing the ugliest sweater. Then, on Saturday at 7:05, Santa Claus will be in town, making his final preparations for the big night.
