Nailers Sign Tyler Murovich

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced three transactions, which all take effect immediately. Forwards Reid Gardiner and Troy Josephs have both been recalled by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In a separate transaction, the Nailers signed forward Tyler Murovich to an ECHL contract.

Gardiner, 22, is tied for the team lead in scoring, having amassed 44 points in 42 games. His 26 goals are the most on the Nailers, second in the ECHL and first among rookies in the league. Prior to his recall, Reid had recorded at least one point in nine consecutive contests, putting him one game shy of matching his own season high. The Humboldt, Saskatchewan native was named ECHL Rookie of the Month in January, making him the second player in team history to earn that honor twice in the same season. Gardiner has appeared in 75 career games between Wheeling and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, tallying 29 goals, 21 assists, and 50 points.

Josephs, 23, had his best game in a Wheeling uniform on Friday night, as he netted his first career hat trick in the club's 7-3 victory over the Indy Fuel. Troy has suited up in 26 games with the Nailers, piling up nine goals, 11 assists, and 20 points. The Whitby, Ontario native got his first taste of professional hockey at the end of the 2016-17 campaign, when he notched one goal and one assist in 13 games with the AHL Penguins.

Murovich, 28, begins his third stint with the Nailers, as he starts his ninth season of professional hockey. Tyler first played for Wheeling during the 2010-11 season, putting up ten points in 20 regular season games, before collecting six points in 14 playoff contests, as the Nailers reached the Eastern Conference Final. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native returned to Wheeling for 39 games during the 2014-15 campaign, when he registered four goals, six assists, and ten points. Murovich has appeared in 458 professional games, totaling 108 goals, 128 assists, and 236 points. He spent the last two seasons with the Atlanta Gladiators.

The Nailers will play at 8:05 on Saturday, when they host the Fort Wayne Komets for Beach Party Night. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a pair of Nailers sunglasses, and one lucky fan will win a trip to Myrtle Beach. The seven-game homestand will conclude with a Two-for-Tuesday (2 tickets for $22) when Wheeling hosts the Toledo Walleye at 7:05. The next big promotional game is Pittsburgh Penguins Night on March 10th against the Reading Royals.
