Nick Sorkin Named AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of the Month

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce that Nick Sorkin has been named the AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for January, as he led the league with a plus-minus rating of +17.

Sorkin, 26, is currently playing in his second season with the Nailers, after finishing third on the team with 57 points last year. Nick is enjoying another productive campaign, as he has amassed six goals, 31 assists, and 37 points in 44 games, which places him in a tie for fourth place on the club in scoring. In addition to his league best +17 rating, the Rockville, Maryland native notched at least one point in ten of 14 January matches. He has performed especially well at home, recording eight points in Wheeling's last five games at WesBanco Arena, including a three-point outing in a 6-2 victory over Kalamazoo on January 24th. Sorkin's excellent month put him into a tie for the best plus-minus on the team with Dan Milan, as the two currently sit at +14.

Nick Sorkin becomes the seventh player in team history to be named the AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of the Month, and the first since Nick Petersen, who received the honor in January of 2011. The other previous winners were: Jeremy Brown (December, 2001), JC Ruid (January, 2004), Luis Tremblay (April, 2006), Tommy Goebel (October, 2008), and Chris Capraro (December, 2009). Sorkin is the second player to earn a monthly honor from the league this season, joining Reid Gardiner, who was ECHL Rookie of the Month in October.

In recognition of his accomplishment, AMI Graphics will present Nick Sorkin with personalized Plus Performer of the Month Banners during an on-ice ceremony at an upcoming Nailers’ home game.

The Nailers will play two games at WesBanco Arena this weekend. Friday is 90's Night, Starring Alfonso Ribeiro, plus the Nailers will wear special jerseys for the 7:05 tilt against the Indy Fuel. Saturday night is a Beach Party, featuring a Nailers Sunglasses Giveaway for the 8:05 face-off against the Fort Wayne Komets.
