WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce an additional promotion for an upcoming game. NASCAR Xfinity Series Driver Garrett Smithley will be making a special guest appearance on Friday, March 23rd, joining the Nailers for the "Race to the Playoffs."
Last summer, Smithley, a native of Ligonier, Pennsylvania and a big Pittsburgh Penguins fan, welcomed the Nailers into his racing family with JD Motorsports. Garrett's "Number Nuthin" car sported the Nailers logo during the Pocono Green 250 and the Mid-Ohio Challenge. The NASCAR Xfinity Series is racing's equivalent to the American Hockey League, when comparing the levels of the two sports.
On Friday night, fans will have the opportunity to meet Garrett Smithley and see his racecar outside the main entrance of WesBanco Arena from 5:00-6:45. Eagle 107.5 The Rock Station will be doing a live remote during that time. After that, Garrett will come inside for a ceremonial puck drop. Then, during the first intermission, Smithley will drive the "Number Nuthin" car onto the ice, where he will rev the engine.
The first 2,500 fans in attendance on Friday will receive a can koozie, and the game is also a Frosty Friday. Additionally, the West Virginia Mountaineers Men's Basketball Game will be shown on televisions throughout the arena.
