WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which is effective immediately. The Tucson Roadrunners have recalled forward Derek Army.
Army, 26, appeared in three games with the Nailers during their most recent road trip, dishing out an assist in the team's 6-3 win at Manchester on Wednesday. Derek is averaging nearly one point per game during his time with Wheeling this season, compiling seven goals, 13 assists, and 20 points in 24 contests. Last week, the North Kingstown, Rhode Island was involved in a trade at the AHL level, as he was acquired by the Tucson Roadrunners from the Milwaukee Admirals. In 22 games with Milwaukee, Army totaled one goal, four assists, and five points. This is Derek's fourth full season as a pro and fifth overall. During that time, he has appeared in 252 games, amassing 70 goals, 86 assists, and 156 points.
The Nailers will play their next three games on home ice, starting with Education Day Game #2 against the Worcester Railers on Wednesday morning at 10:45. Fans can get free tickets for Wednesday's game at the door. Wheeling will follow that up by playing a two-game set against the Reading Royals on Friday and Saturday, with both tilts starting at 7:05. Friday will be Ladies Night, featuring a pregame wine tasting event. Saturday is Pittsburgh Penguins Night, in which fans can see the Stanley Cup, the first 2,500 fans will receive a Carter Rowney Bobblehead, and the Nailers will wear special jerseys.
