WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has added forward Louick Marcotte to its roster, after claiming him off of of waivers from the Fort Wayne Komets earlier in the week.
Marcotte, 23, is playing in his third professional season, all of which have been spent in the ECHL. Louick broke into the pro game with the Adirondack Thunder in 2015-16, tallying 16 goals, 13 assists, and 29 points in 57 games, as Adirondack reached the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Longueuil, Quebec native then made his way to the Wichita Thunder, where he set career highs with 18 goals and 38 points last season. Marcotte returned to Wichita to start this season, before being traded to the Fort Wayne Komets. In 46 games between the two clubs, Louick has produced 13 goals, 18 assists, and 31 points.
Prior to turning pro, the forward played five seasons of junior hockey in the QMJHL, suiting up for the P.E.I. Rocket, Val-d'Or Foreurs, and Gatineau Olympiques. Marcotte's best year was 2013-14, when he piled up 42 goals, 58 assists, and 100 points with Val-d'Or, who captured the President's Cup as champions of the QMJHL. The Foreurs went on to reach the semi-final round of the Memorial Cup, where they fell in overtime to the eventual champion Edmonton Oil Kings, who were backstopped by Tristan Jarry.
