WHEELING, WV- The Kalamazoo Wings played a strong road game on Saturday night at WesBanco Arena, as they kept the Wheeling Nailers off of the scoreboard. Jake Hildebrand made 30 saves for the shutout, while former Nailer Reid Gardiner had one of two power play goals in a 2-0 Kalamazoo win.
Offense was difficult to come by in the first two periods of play, as the two teams combined for 34 shots on goal, while only one puck found its way into the back of the net. The tally went to the visiting Wings at the 6:11 mark of the middle stanza. Brandon Anselmini took a wrist shot from the right point, which was tipped down by Colin Jacobs. The puck ended up sitting at the top of the crease, where it was lunged into the cage by Justin Taylor for the power play strike.
Kalamazoo added one more power play goal at the 1:07 mark of the third period. Chad McDonald had his first two shots stopped, but the final chance went to former Nailer Reid Gardiner, who converted on the left side of the crease for the 2-0 result.
Jake Hildebrand backstopped his fifth career shutout and first of the season for the Wings, denying all 30 shots he faced. Danny Tirone played well, but suffered the defeat, making 27 saves on 29 shots.
