Nailers Shutout Admirals for Fifth Straight Win

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers put forth one of their most one-sided performances of the season on Saturday night, as they crushed the Norfolk Admirals, 5-0 at Norfolk Scope Arena. Nick Saracino and Kevin Spinozzi both scored twice, as Saracino and Cam Brown both extended their point streaks to ten games. Matt O'Connor made it all stand up in goal, earning his first shutout of the year with 21 saves. The win takes Wheeling's point streak to nine games, as the Nailers have gone 8-0-1 during that run.

The Nailers jumped out with a strong first period, denting the twine on a couple of occasions. The first goal came just 1:22 into the contest, as Kevin Spinozzi drove the length of the ice and into the offensive zone, eventually sifting a shot through Jeremy Brodeur's legs. Wheeling's second marker came at the 9:31 mark. The puck made its way to the side of the net, where Nick Saracino jammed it in, extending his point streak to ten games. Cam Brown also recorded an assist to stretch his point streak to ten.

Wheeling added to its lead with one goal in the middle frame. Saracino and Brown made a couple of quick exchanges as they flew in on the left side. The final setup had Brown feeding Saracino, who lifted in his sixth tally in three games.

The dominance continued in the third period, as the Nailers put the finishing touches on their 5-0 victory. Zac Lynch delivered a pass to Alex Rauter for a one-timer from the slot on the fourth marker, and Spinozzi clobbered in his second of the evening 47 seconds after that.

Matt O'Connor earned the first shutout of the season for a Wheeling netminder, turning aside all 21 shots he faced. Jeremy Brodeur was the losing goaltender for the Admirals, as he gave up five goals on 47 shots.

The Nailers will play two more games on the road next week, as they travel to Indy on Thursday at 7:05, followed by Kalamazoo on Friday at 7:30. Wheeling's next home game is New Year's Eve, when the Reading Royals come to town for a 6:05 face-off. That will also be Star Wars Night, featuring special jerseys, a surprise giveaway, and a chance to meet Star Wars characters. Another exciting upcoming promotion is Nickelodeon Night Featuring SpongeBob & Patrick on January 12th.
