WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers are excited to announce their 18th signing of the 2026 offseason. Wheeling has re-signed forward Nick McCarry to an ECHL contract.
McCarry, 24, was originally acquired by the Nailers in June at the ECHL Future Considerations Trade Deadline to complete a prior transaction with the Norfolk Admirals. Nick made his professional debut with the Atlanta Gladiators in February, following the completion of his collegiate career at Carleton University. The rookie forward was scoreless in five games with Atlanta, then got traded to Norfolk in early March. McCarry earned first star honors by scoring his first career goal and adding an assist in a 4-1 Admirals win over the Maine Mariners on March 13th to end Maine's 11-game winning streak. Nick completed the ECHL season with three points in 21 contests.
Prior to turning pro, the Calgary, Alberta native played four seasons of USports at Carleton University. McCarry's best season at school was this past year, when he led the Ravens with 16 goals, 14 assists, and 30 points in 28 games. That performance helped him earn a selection to the OUA East First All-Star Team. Nick earned league honors two other times at Carleton, as he was named to the OUA East All-Rookie Team in 2022-23 and the OUA East Second All-Star Team in 2024-25. Overall, McCarry amassed 40 goals, 71 assists, and 111 points in 108 games with the Ravens. Nick also played parts of five seasons in the WHL with the Medicine Hat Tigers, Kamloops Blazers, and Spokane Chiefs, as he produced 104 points in 174 games.
Nick McCarry and the Wheeling Nailers will begin the 2026-27 season in Indy on Friday, October 16th. The first home game is Saturday, October 24th against the Toledo Walleye.
