Cyclones Prevail in Overtime's Dying Seconds

WHEELING, WV- For the second straight game, the Wheeling Nailers and Cincinnati Cyclones went right down to the wire at WesBanco Arena. Over 66 minutes of hockey were played before the game was finally decided with 1.2 seconds remaining in overtime. Cincinnati's Sahil Panwar banked in a shot to deliver a 2-1 win for the visitors. Robby Drazner scored the lone goal for the Nailers, who received 32 saves from Philip Svedebäck in his professional debut.

The lone goal of the first period came just 2:09 into play, as Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead. Nathan Burke feathered a pass behind the defense to Nate Mitton, who created an opening for himself in the low slot. Mitton quickly chipped the puck up and into the top-right corner of the cage.

Defense and goaltending were big factors in the tilt, as the score remained 1-0 all the way until the 4:29 mark of the third period. That's when the Nailers broke through with the equalizer. Tanner Hartman tipped the puck back to Robby Drazner, whose wrist shot from the right point found its way into the net. That was Drazner's second day in a row with a goal, in addition to Hartman's first professional point.

For the second day in a row, bonus hockey was necessary to decide a winner, as the two teams progressed to overtime. The match nearly went to a shootout, but with 1.2 seconds left, the Cyclones got a fortunate bounce for the game winner. Sahil Panwar took the left circle face-off forward, then banked the puck off of a Wheeling defender's skate and in over the goal line for the 2-1 final score.

Timofei Obvintsev collected the win in goal for Cincinnati, as he made 28 saves on 29 shots. Philip Svedebäck denied 32 of the 34 shots he faced for the Nailers in his first career start, including eight of nine in overtime.

This was Associate Coach Jason Payne's 500th game as a professional hockey coach.
