WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. The Nashville Predators have assigned goaltender Matt O'Connor to the Nailers.
O'Connor, 26, is in his third season of professional hockey, and first with the Nashville organization, after spending his first two campaigns with the Ottawa Senators. Matt's first pro game was also his NHL debut, which took place on October 11, 2015. He and the Senators fell 3-1 to the Montreal Canadiens, as Mike Condon also made his NHL debut that night. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native accumulated 24 wins over the course of two seasons with the AHL's Binghamton Senators, and has appeared in two AHL contests this season as a member of the Milwaukee Admirals. O'Connor has won each of his last two starts at the ECHL level, playing with the Manchester Monarchs. He has also seen game action with the Atlanta Gladiators and Quad City Mallards in 2017-18. Prior to turning pro, Matt attended Boston University for three years, which included a trip to the National Championship Game in 2015. That season, the netminder turned in a record of 25-4-4.
